It is increasingly common to demand binding statements about a project's throughput, necessary resources and budget at a time when, due to budget reasons and complexity, the specifications cannot be fully identified. Often, a cap on expenses has to be fixed as well. Schedules become more and more critical because of fast-changing technologies. Luckily, agile project management concepts are finding their way into Europe's companies: MSF Agile and SCRUM have shed their image of being "unstructured outsiders" and have become everyday project management tools.
Under these conditions, software estimation is still underrated: It is still considered to be a "toy for statistics freaks" and IT controllers, who are "sitting in their gloomy offices and have no idea of software projects".
This is why we want to found a "practice-oriented" software estimation community in Austria, which focuses on the use of simple, easy to learn tools. We will collect your information and wishes, discuss it with our colleagues at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien, where Sven Schweiger is holding lectures on this subject, and tell you about new steps and results on our website.
